Mother in law is being ridiculous! Please give me your opinion of this?

You mother in law does not seem to care that your son has an issue with the ride. I would suggest hat you let her know in no uncertain terms that his needs come before hers. He is far more important in your life than she will ever be. His interests and welfare come before her. Get her to understand that and things will work themselves out.
