How come NASCAR is a sport, but cheer leading is not?

I argued this with a friend the other day. Its funny how the only physical movement in NASCAR is just hitting the gas pedal and driving with the steering wheel, but Cheerleading is full on psychical body movement and yet it is not considered a sport. Its even more physically active then Chess and Bowling, yet even those are considered sports. There is competition in Cheerleading as well. Ignorance at its finest.
